2008 Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure®

The Race may have ended, but it's not too late to donate!

ONLINE DONATIONS ARE STILL BEING ACCEPTED, AND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL JUNE 30, 2008.

EVENTS:  5K Race, 4K Walk, 1K Walk, Kid's K, and Little Kid's Short Race, plus Sleep in for the Cure and, new in 2008, KNIT FOR THE CURE.

Sleep in for the Cure is for folks who cannot attend the Race, but wish to participate from afar, especially from their beds.  Knit for the Cure is for knitters wishing to create and donate caps, scarfs and other items to cancer wards in Connecticut hospitals.

FUNDRAISING:  Since the purpose of the Race for the Cure is to raise funds to conquer breast cancer, we encourage each of you to invite friends and family to support your participation by making donations in your name.  In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure we encourage you to recruit fifteen people to donate $25 or more in your name.  To help you achieve that, the registration process will assist you in setting up your very own web page which can accept online donations.  We can also provide e-mail tools for your fundraising.  Please give it a try.  The top twenty individual fundraising totals, and the top twenty team fundraising totals are displayed in the scrolling list on the side of this page.

DONATING ONLINE: You can find a participant or team to support and help them to meet their fundraising goal by making a donation.  You can also make a general donation to the Race.  To see the latest statistics on registration and the Top Ten Teams fundraising totals, scroll to the bottom of this page.

REGISTRATION: Regular registration fees for the Race for the Cure are based upon your age on Race Day, June 7, 2008.  Youth up to age 13 are $15, and Adults are $30.  Registration allows you to participate in any of the walking or running events and in the new event, Knit for the Cure.

IN THE PINK®: A premium registration category for women and men who have a strong commitment to eradicating breast cancer and would like to support the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure by registering for $75. In The Pink® registrants are eligible for a special raffle prize, receive a commemorative In The Pink® item, and have rapid t-shirt and bib pickup at a special In The Pink®  location on Race day.

SLEEP IN FOR THE CURE®: Out of town on Race day? Work nights, sleep days? Or just want to sleep in on a Saturday morning? Then Sleep In for the Cure® is the perfect way to show your support for the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure®. Your $35.00 registration fee includes: a Race t-shirt and a bib number. These items will be mailed to you in a packet in advance of the Race.

KNIT FOR THE CURE:  Bring a lawn chair and your knitting (or crocheting) and join us in the park on Race Day.  Register for the race or for In the Pink, then click on Knit for the Cure when you select your event.  There will be door prizes and a few surprises!

TEAMS:   Instead of registering as an independent individual, you may join an existing team or form your own team by selecting the appropriate button in the upper right corner of this page.  If you are a member of a company, school, church, club or any other organization that might already have one or more teams, and you don't know those team names, you may search for a list of those teams by first entering the name of your organization in the box "Team Affiliation".  That will bring up the names of any teams affiliated with that organization by its Team Captain.  If you are creating a new team and wish to display your team's affiliation with your organization, you will be prompted to designate that affiliation when you choose a team name. Please check the list of existing organizations to see if yours is already listed.  Please also select the Category of the organization from which you draw your team, so we can recognize the top teams in each category.

Access your Fundraising Center:  You can perform your fundraising activities online by logging in and accessing your Fundraising Center. You will have the ability to create a personal page, manage an address book, send e-mails to friends and family and monitor your fundraising progress.  If you participated in last year's Race, your personal fundraising page is still there to use with any changes you wish.
